Cryptography Engineer, Zero-Knowledge Credentials

Berlin, Germany

Apply

Empoorio was founded on the belief that people should own their digital identity — cryptographically secured, portable across services, and anchored on EmpoorioChain without platform lock-in. Today we are building KryptoOS, the sovereign identity layer for wallets, cloud, and enterprise integrators worldwide.

KryptoOS delivers production SSI — did:emp identifiers, verifiable credentials, issuer and verifier services, and multi-language SDKs. You will work on protocols used daily across the Empoorio ecosystem. You will prototype and productionize zero-knowledge credential presentations for privacy-preserving verification. If you thrive in high-ownership environments where correctness and privacy matter, this role will be a strong next step in your career.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cryptographic primitives for DID documents, credential proofs, and key rotation
  • Own did:emp resolution performance, fail-closed verification, and protocol RFCs shared with integrators
  • Collaborate with runtime engineers on EmpoorioChain anchor semantics and revocation (Status List 2021)
  • Review security-sensitive changes across kryptos-core, issuer services, and verifier pipelines
  • Mentor engineers on W3C DID Core 1.0 and VC Data Model 2.0 implementation details

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, security, or distributed systems (1+ for specialist IC tracks)
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote-first, async collaboration environment
  • Fluency in English for documentation, reviews, and partner communication

Preferred skills and experience

  • Experience with W3C Verifiable Credentials, DIDs, or OIDC4VCI / OIDC4VP
  • Contributions to Rust, TypeScript, Python, or Dart codebases used in production
  • Exposure to Substrate, Polkadot ecosystem, or blockchain anchoring patterns
  • Background in privacy engineering, applied cryptography, or formal security reviews
  • Prior work with wallet, fintech, or enterprise identity integrations

Additional requirements

  • Willing to overlap with EU and Americas time zones for critical releases and incidents
  • Able to travel up to 10% for team summits, partner workshops, or conferences
  • On-site collaboration expected for local team sessions in addition to remote work
